VINTAGE

VS

SECOND HAND

What is the difference ? (Yes, there is!)

Objets à thème clair
You often hear the word vintage and second hand confused yet there is a difference between
those two words! We can say that they belong to the great family of modern recycling, but I would say
they are not of the same generation.

Get to the heart of the matter, we use the word vintage to describe an object or a garment that is more than about 30 years old. The older it is, the rarer it is and therefore the more stylish it is. The second hand is giving a second life to an object or a garment by reusing it. You can give it a facelift, resell it to give it a new life or customize it. A t-shirt that becomes a crop-top, or a blanket that becomes a bag, no limit!

If you like atypical pieces, you can mix eras and do second-hand with vintage to create a unique piece or object.

We can therefore say that vintage is a bit like the grandfather of second-hand, which is still a toddler but growing at high speed.

Despite its old age, vintage is still popular. Beyond its classic definition, it is defined nowadays by a mixture of old influences reinterpreted in a current use. Pick up the parents Formica table for your new apartment or spend the weekend antiquing in a thrift store, Diane Kari aka "fripouille Vintage" here you are.

The second hand does not go unnoticed either. Often under the influence of the vintage style, many creators parade on Instagram and TikTok, each more innovative than the other. What could be better than drawing inspiration from its elders?

But concretely, what is it for?

To be consumed in a healthier and more ecological way! At your level, you try to diminish the impact of the mass consumption of the big brands, and you do not participate in the poor conditions of the workers.

You have therefore understood, vintage and second hand are the stars of our time. Associated with the ecological movement, which is also increasingly "fashionable", in a society that wants to be more and more futuristic and controlled by screens, the new generations have one foot in the past."

You can find vintage and second-hand items at the Emmaus in your city, in a thrift store or on Vinted! And don't forget flea markets.
